Now that your car has an airbag to protect your head, neck, spine and torso, doctors are seeing car accident victims sustaining more foot and ankle fractures. Let me rephrase that: now that people are surviving their car crash, doctors need to treat more foot and ankle fractures.

In the old days, before air bags, a fractured ankle did not matter if you were dead. Now, a fractured ankle is nowhere near as serious as a fractured skull, but it can leave you with chronic arthritis, weakness and deformity. These people can be left with foot pain or ankle pain or problems for the rest of their life.

The solution is simple: another air bag for our feet and ankles. We have the technology, so why not add another airbag?

Of course, once our feet are safe, someone is going to want an airbag for their hands.
