Thanks for the note, Darren. I had not heard of barefoot parks, but maybe they are something we need more of! Please double check the link about Britian's Park. Thanks!

This is an excellent report and gets right to the essence of the barefoot-or-shoe debate. We are always hearing encouragement to exercise, but to a large degree, most shoes act as cast-like structures and inhibit the natural movement of the feet.

It seems fairly obvious that feet, just like any other part of the body, need exercise. And even though shoes rank right up there with the wheel in terms of important inventions, no one is advocating driving to every destination. Sometimes, it does a body good to walk. I'm fairly sure that the consensus opinion that will eventually emerge is that sometimes, maybe even more often than not, is that it does a body's soles good to walk barefoot.

Barefoot parks for just that purpose are gaining in popularity across Europe. Germany has more than 40, and the first one recently opened in Great Britain.

Thanks for this site and keep up the good work!
