“Stand Tall”
Thanks to your feet, you can stand tall, and run, jump, swim, kick a ball, and do a myriad of other incredible activities! Consider the incredible system of pulleys and levers required for us to take a single step, and to repeat this incredible balancing act, thousands of times a day.
Beyond the wonder of walking, ballet dancers can rise onto the tips of their toes, standing en pointe; tight rope walkers use their feet to grasp the rope as they cross; and for those special, unfortunate people born without hands, their feet are the perfect substitute, doing nearly everything we’d use our hands for, including painting masterpieces.
Here, I celebrate the astonishing human foot and walking in America. The America’s Podiatrist website is a plain-spoken, non-technical site for all Americans. The site avoids complicated medical mumbo-jumbo that dominates other health sites. The site will also explore how, through our feet, we can improve the health and fitness of our entire body, and how, by walking better we can lessen joint and muscle strain, alleviating pain in our hips, back, knees, feet, ankles and elsewhere.
This site is a work in progress. When finished it will be a resource for “everything feet,” from how to walk better, a method called FloWalking, to heel pain to running barefoot.
As a practicing podiatrist who has treated over 10,000 pairs of feet, I am committed to helping America look at their feet as they never have before. Our feet are our contact with the earth; if they malfunction, our entire body is at risk to develop areas of pain or problems. However, when we use our feet right, they can benefit our whole body.
As you read this site, I hope you enjoy learning about how incredible your feet and for that matter, your whole body is. If you have a question or a comment, or an interesting story about your feet, walking or your overall health, please feel free to send me a note at AmericasPodiatrist@sbcglobal.net
Yours in good health,
Michael Nirenberg, DPM
